Shaniel is an MIT Engineering Excellence Postdoctoral Fellow in the Edelman Lab. She received her PhD in Bioengineering from the University of Pittsburgh where she used computational modeling to evaluate the effects of age and pelvic reconstructive surgery on female pelvic anatomy. Her current research interests are in characterizing the gross/microscopic structure and mechanical properties of the clitoris and its supportive structures (connective tissues, muscles) in the context of reported physiological/patient-reported outcomes of sexual function in women/persons with a clitoris. Aside from research, Shaniel enjoys playing piano, drawing, reading science fiction/fantasy, and playing video games.
